13th Colony Distillery Rewards Insider Community for Acts of Giving

Americus, GA — This November, 13^th Colony Distillery challenged the Insider Community to pay it forward in the spirit of Thanksgiving. Insiders were asked to do something generous for someone else and then provide a brief description of their Act of Giving. Those who submitted acts of kindness were entered to win a bottle of 13^th Colony’s Double Oaked Bourbon, Southern Bourbon, Southern Rye, Southern Vodka or Southern Gin.

“We received more than 350 entries,” said Maxwell Darby, president of 13th Colony. “We were absolutely blown away by these stories.”

Four of the five winners gave permission to 13^th Colony to share their stories below.

“I noticed that one of my neighbors’ mailboxes had been run over and destroyed. I contacted them and they were out of town. So, I went out and picked up a new mailbox and installed it before they returned home.”

“I am a physician assistant in pediatric Neurosurgery. We had a kiddo come to us with a newly diagnosed brain tumor and the family was extremely distraught along with the little girl. I spent many hours with them that first day and found out the little girl loves unicorns. I went and got a squishmellow (stuffed animal) unicorn for her and gave it to her the next day. She has continued to bring that unicorn with her to all future appointments.”

“One day at the hospital, visiting my mother-in-law, we met her roommate—an old man in a tough spot. His glasses were a mess, with both arms broken off and taped together. It hit us right in the feels. Couldn't just stand by, so we took action. Sent those busted glasses to a local eye doc to figure out the prescription and get him a new pair. The wait was nerve-wracking, but when he got those fresh glasses back, it was worth it. His grin could've lit up the whole place. After that day, we never saw him again, but we hope those glasses are still doing their job."

"A few weeks ago, my wife and I were grocery shopping and in line to check out behind an elderly lady trying to use her Georgia EBT Card (Food Stamps) to buy groceries. The card was denied several times so the clerk and manager had to refuse her purchase. She pleaded and pleaded, but eventually teared up and began to walk away and leave the store without her groceries. I told her to stop and had the manager swipe my card to pay for the $140+ bill. She was so happy and grateful, gave us hugs and made our weekend one of the best ever. Never got her name…it was totally random and anonymous."

“We’re thankful for all our Insiders who went the extra mile to help someone else,” said Darby.
